The last quarter was not too good for Electronic Arts, at least financially. In the quarter ended June 30, 2024, EA recorded declines in all areas of its business, however management judges these results to be above expectations.
Total net revenues are equal to 1.26 billion dollars (-13.7% on an annual basis), live services account for over 80% of the proceeds, sales of complete games instead stop at 250 million dollars, with a decrease of over 43% compared to the same quarter of 2023.
EA reported a profit of $280 million, also down 30% on a year-over-year basis. For Electronic Arts, the console market is still worth 53.6% of total sales, followed by PC and Mobile with just over 23% (each).
EA Sports FC Mobile is performing above expectations, Madden NFL 25 is performing “on schedule,” and EA Sports College Football 25 has 5 million players in its first week on the market. The Sims 4 is holding up, while APEX Legends is on a losing streak and needs to get back on track. Battlefield has 25 million players in the last year, and the next Battlefield will be one of the most ambitious games EA has ever made.
Speaking about EA Sports College Football 25, CEO Andrew Wilson emphasizes that the success of the game is due to the great work done by the AI. Artificial intelligence has helped the development team to optimize the roadmap of the work and has also allowed a lot of time to be saved in the creation of stadiums and player models. EA is in love with generative AI and will continue to use it in its projects to support developers, in order to optimize and save resources.
Finally, EA says it is not worried about the strike of video game actors and voice actors, this is because due to some legal and bureaucratic clauses, the strike will only have repercussions on video games whose development began after September 2023 and no title of the future Electronic Arts lineup has entered production after this date.
