Jonathan Majors recently opened up about his feelings about Robert Downey Jr. replacing Kang as Doctor Doom. In an interview with TMZ, he admitted that he was heartbroken when he heard about Downey’s casting. Despite this, Majors expressed his continued love for Kang the Conqueror and stated that he would be willing to return to the role of the villain if fans and Marvel wanted him to.
After leaving his Marvel contract amid allegations of abuse and harassment, Majors shared his opinion that Downey’s Doctor Doom will take his place as the MCU’s next major villain.
Yeah, it’s heartbreaking. Sure, I love him. I love Kang. But Dr. Doom is cool, too.
Finally, he was asked if he would like to return as Kang the Conqueror in the future.
Kang? Yeah, hell yeah. I love him. I love Kang, I love Victor Timely, I love The One Who Remains. If that’s what the fans want and Marvel wants, then let’s do it.
On March 25, 2023, Majors was arrested on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment following an argument with his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. He was found guilty of two counts of assault and harassment and acquitted of charges of third-degree intentional assault and second-degree aggravated assault. Majors pleaded not guilty to all charges.
He avoided jail time but was sentenced to a year of counseling. Majors’ lawyers said “we are optimistic that Mr. Majors will soon be working in the film industry again.”
Downey’s Doctor Doom will be the central villain in The Avengers, which will be released in May 2026. The Russo brothers, who previously worked on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, will direct.
