According to the CEO of Electronic Arts, the SAG-AFTRA strike will have no significant impact in the short term.
The American actors’ union has been on strike since July 26. The main reason is inadequate protection measures for members when using AI.
The strike means that video game developers are less likely to rely on unionized actors for their games. This particularly affects the areas of motion capture and voice recording.
The SAG-AFTRA strike will have no short-term impact, said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, in a Q&A session following the company’s first quarter 2025 financial call.
“First, let me say that we value our talent and actors, who are an important part of our work in delivering the incredible entertainment experiences our players enjoy around the world,” said Wilson.
“This is not an EA-specific situation, but an industry-specific situation, and we are working hard to negotiate at the bargaining table. As for our products, the strike is limited to games entering production after September 2023, including those on the live service.”
“So we don’t expect any short-term disruption to the games we have in development or the live services we currently offer.”
“However, we are committed to continuing to negotiate in good faith and hope that the parties can quickly resolve our issues at the negotiating table. But we do not expect any significant short-term impact on EA.”
