The second season of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” started last week. As a look at the number of players shows, Rocksteady is unlikely to be able to turn the fate of the co-op title around for the better with the second season either.
As is well known, the co-op action title “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” developed by Rocksteady got off to a weak start.
After initially the international test scores disappointed, the player numbers also pointed to a commercial failure a short time later. A negative development that even the first season could not change. But what about the second season, which Rocksteady launched last week?
Unfortunately, things aren’t any better. Quite the opposite: As a look at the player numbers on Steam shows, the number of simultaneously active users at the start of the second season was even worse than at the launch of the first season.
Suicide Squad only records three-digit player numbers on Steam
According to the Data from SteamDB The highest number of concurrent active users at the release of the second season was just 572 players. In the last 24 hours, the user peak for “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” on Steam was just 317 concurrent players.
As usual, figures for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are not available. However, it has become apparent in recent months that “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” did not meet the expectations of Rocksteady and Warner. As the publisher admitted, the action title caused a large loss in the balance sheet in the quarter of its release.
According to reliable insider Miller Ross, the low player numbers will result in support for “Suicide Squad” ending in spring 2025. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Is Rocksteady returning to its roots?
At the beginning of June, we received news that the commercial failure of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” would have an impact on the responsible development team, Rocksteady.
In a report, well-connected insider and Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier points out that the “Batman Arkham” makers will return to their roots after the flop.
Rocksteady’s next big project could be a classic single-player experience. TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz added: “I think they’ll definitely give it another go. Hopefully with something that’s more in line with their proven talents.”
Warner officials did not comment on the rumors about Rocksteady’s future.
