Bungie’s 220-person layoff is causing quite a stir, with several current and former employees reacting forcefully to the latest events. And some have even found out they’ve lost their jobs through social media.
“This is how I found out I was fired,” says now ex-Bungie Tzvi Sherman, revealing that he found out about his dismissal through the company’s statement on Twitter/X, implying that he had not received any kind of communication from management about his departure. It is therefore not to be excluded that other former colleagues of his also found out about their job fates through indirect communications.
Meanwhile, accusations of poor internal management against CEO Pete Parsons are multiplying, with some current and former Bungie employees calling on him to step down. “Resign Pete,” says Liana Ruppert, then accusing Parsons of being “a liar, a thief, and many other things I can’t say publicly. Resign without receiving any severance pay from Sony. This is not Sony’s fault, this is a failure of leadership, period.” Griffin Bennet, a former community manager at Bungie, also thinks the same: “Pete is a buffoon. Will management take responsibility for what happened or will they simply withhold bonuses and fix everything internally? Poor leadership has destroyed one of the greatest companies ever, retire Pete.” Also, a Marathon designer, Collin MacGregor, says he is “angry and deeply depressed by what is happening. Please use your energy and goodwill to support those who have been affected by the layoffs, because they are some of the most talented people in the industry.”
In short, Bungie seems to be going through a crisis that casts a shadow over its future plans and its actual independence given that Sony’s Hermen Hulst is now at the head of the company.

You are a liat, a thief, and so many things we can’t discuss publicly. STEP DOWN and WITHOUT the giant Sony payout. This isn’t on Sony, this is squarely on the failure of lead ship. Plain and simple.

I’m okay, but I’m angry and deeply fucking depressed about this. Please put your energy and goodwill towards supporting those impacted because they’re some of the most talented people in the industry. https://t.co/i6R70cho9N
