Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most anticipated games right now. It will be released on August 20, but only on Playstation 5 and PC. At the last minute, the developers announced that they were postponing the release date of the game for Xbox Series X | S indefinitely. After that, there were various rumors online about an exclusive deal between Black Myth: Wukong and Sony, but the developers themselves deny this, and the promotional materials for the game for Playstation do not mention any exclusivity.
At the ChinaJoy exhibition, the game Black Myth: Wukong was presented at the Playstation stand, as was the Phantom Blade Zero project. Journalists we chatted with the developers of both projects to find out whether this is confirmation of an exclusive agreement with Sony. According to representatives of the Game Science and S-GAME studios, there is no deal. They noted that they cooperate with Sony on the release of their games, but without an obligation to exclusivity.
In particular, the Playstation team is helping Game Science and S-GAME studios with the optimization and testing of the games Black Myth: Wukong and Phantom Blade Zero for Playstation 5 consoles.
As for the Xbox versions of the games, Game Science and S-GAME studios made it clear to journalists that they are not a priority. Since the games are created by Asian teams, they are primarily focused on domestic markets, where Xbox is poorly represented. In addition, it is more difficult for studios to create games for Xbox consoles, since Microsoft has weaker support for developers from the Asian region.
At this point, Black Myth: Wukong has been officially confirmed to be coming to Xbox Series X | S in the future, but there is no release date yet. As for Phantom Blade Zero, the developers “didn’t rule out” the possibility of the game appearing on Microsoft consoles, but the project for Xbox consoles has not been officially announced.
