Last week, China hosted the huge ChinaJoy 2024 gaming expo. Local developers showcased their most exciting new titles, with the action games Black Myth: Wukong and Phantom Blade Zero particularly catching the attention of gamers. PlayStation was the official partner of both games, which caused some discontent among gamers who prefer to play on Xbox. However, the developers themselves quickly cleared up the confusion by stating that they have no exclusive agreements with Sony.
The developers emphasized that they are very happy with the cooperation with the PlayStation gaming division. They noted that Sony actively helps them promote games both inside and outside of China. Despite this, the cooperation does not impose any restrictions on them. The developers retain the right to independently choose the platforms for the release, and at the moment they see great prospects in PC and PS5.
The anonymous developer of Phantom Blade Zero emphasized that Sony specialists are actively helping not only with the optimization of the game for PS5, but also for PC. In response to a question about the preference of PlayStation over Xbox, he expressed the opinion that Xbox is a platform that does not find demand, especially in Asia. In addition, the developer claims that the Microsoft ecosystem has proven to be too complex for publishing games, which makes it not the most attractive choice for studios.
