Po data Jeff Grubb (whose information confirmed sources from GameSpot and Jason Schreier), Bungie studio was left by “veterans” Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy, who were engaged Destiny series.
Smith served as CEO and Noseworthy served as vice president of the franchise.
Grubb noted that the authors left the company amid a restructuring in the management – this happened after the “freezing” of their new game, tentatively titled Payback, which was supposed to take place in the Destiny universe.
It is separately specified that this is not about a third installment of the franchise. At the same time, Payback itself was “shelved” in June.
Earlier, it became known about new layoffs at Bungie, which affected 220 employees. However, the company allegedly made such a decision back in early 2024 – so the success of the Final Form expansion did not affect the situation.
Additionally, 155 employees will be “integrated” into Sony’s ranks, though it’s unclear how exactly. One source noted that Bungie was “losing money” and couldn’t meet Sony’s targets.
Prior to this, a wave of layoffs swept through Bungie in October 2023, although the number of employees who lost their jobs remained unknown at the time.
Apparently, the development of Payback was stopped due to the current problems and cuts.
