Sven Vincke spoke to PC Gamer and revealed that Larian almost got stuck at Baldur’s Gate after all. As it turns out, the Belgian studio has started working on new levels and stories for the expansion to Baldur’s Gate 3.
“The production machine was still warm,” things were going well, but the team wasn’t sure they wanted to spend another three years on it. The addon wasn’t worth it, so the work became the basis for Baldur’s Gate 4. Larian had a partially playable build that “you would all love.”
But that would have taken even longer to do the same thing, and the team eventually abandoned Dungeons & Dragons in favor of two new projects.
