Console sales continue to slow, games are doing well.
Nintendo Corporation has released report for the quarter ended June 30, 2024. Nintendo’s revenue fell 46.5% year over year, while profit fell 55.3%.
One of the reasons for the drop in revenue and profit is the continued decline in Switch console sales. Nintendo sold about 2 million units in the quarter, the worst result since the 2018 financial year.
Things are a little better with game sales: Nintendo sold about 31 million copies of games during the quarter. In total, the company sold 143.42 million Switches and 1.266 billion copies of games for this console.
Notably, the Switch’s audience continues to grow. According to Nintendo’s estimates, it now stands at around 128 million players, up from 121 million a year ago.
Nintendo is currently preparing the next generation of the console. The successor to the Switch is expected to be released in early 2025.
