Nintendo has released its financial report for the first quarter of the current fiscal year, April 1 to June 30, 2024, and we have already commented on the significant decline in the company’s overall profits, both in hardware, software and in the mobile business segment.
However, we have to qualify a little on the software side, because during the Message shows a 41.3% drop in game sales profit compared to the same period last year, the company has managed to get three titles released on Nintendo Switch to over one million copies sold, and two of them are first-party titles, with one third-party game that was not announced.
We’re talking about Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. The remake of Paper Mario (the original of which was released on the Gamecube in 2004) has reached 1.76 million units sold since its release on May 23. The remaster of the second part of Luigi’s Mansion 2 (released for Nintendo 3DS in 2013) has exceeded the 1.19 million unit mark since its debut on June 27, which is an even greater success if you compare the data.
However, both are end-of-life cycle releases for the Switch, which is showing clear signs of exhaustion after eight years on the market. As for the company’s other titles planned for this fiscal year, Nintendo hopes they can improve on these results, with Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club on August 29, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on September 26, Super Mario Party Jamboree on October 17, Mario & Luigi: Brothership on November 7 and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on January 16, 2025, and maintain the same forecasts for the fiscal year ending May 7.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: ZA are also scheduled for 2025, but it is unknown if they will be released this fiscal year or next year (along with the launch of new hardware).
What do you think the Nintendo Switch release schedule looks like for the current fiscal year?
