Riot Games’ hit shooter Valorant has now arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, four years after the PC version was released. The game will obviously have some competition on consoles as well as PC, including from games like Marvel Rival and Concord.
Riot Games, however, is not afraid of competition at all.
Riot Games’ Words on Valorant
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Riot Games’ production director and product lead for Valorant, Arnar Hrafn Gylfason, said that “we don’t think of[Valorant]as a hero shooter. At our core, we’re a tactical shooter. We just happen to have agents with abilities,” which in itself “gives us a lot of freedom and leeway to create all sorts of gameplay and creative experiences.”

He continues, “At our core, we’re a very serious tactical shooter, pretty challenging and competitive. I think this is a different way to meet the needs of the hero action shooters that we’ve seen in this space over the last few years. And we also see that in the way that players present themselves. We’re not saying one is better than the other, but that they serve different needs and different motivations of players.”
Gylfason concludes that ultimately, even in an increasingly crowded genre, “I think there’s room for everyone.” Of course, his direct competitors hope so.
As a reminder, Concord will be available on PS5 and PC from August 23.
