As the community retraces the history of Grand Theft Auto by rediscovering the forgotten gem GTA Chinatown Wars, Digital Foundry reflects on the potential issues Rockstar faced in making the Xbox Series S version of GTA 6.
According to what has been hypothesized by the well-known collective of ‘tech enthusiast’ journalists, in fact, the developers of the next, highly anticipated chapter in the free-roaming saga from Rockstar Games could be forced to deal with the hardware limitations of the Xbox Series S by significantly reducing the resolution compared to the counterparts destined to land on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
According to the Digital Foundry team, the level of graphic detail seen in Trailer 1 of GTA 6 could suggest the adoption of a 720p resolution for the Xbox Series S version. For DF journalist John Linneman, such a reduction in the resolution target would be justified by the impossibility, for Rockstar Games’ digital artists, to give up advanced graphic effects such as Ray Tracing, the use of which would be essential to return to the screen an experience as immersive as the one suggested by Trailer 1.
The latest statements from the Digital Foundry team, as you can easily imagine, are fueling a heated debate on industry forums, with many fans wondering about the actual quality of the graphics department of GTA 6 and the possible difficulties faced by the Big R in guaranteeing a level of detail similar to that of the first video given to us by the developers of the new Grand Theft Auto. DF’s reflections are then added to the statements of a former Rockstar, according to which there will not be a graphical leap between GTA 5 and GTA 6 like the one seen from San Andreas to GTA 4. Presumably, Trailer 2 will help us unravel this and other doubts regarding the technical department of GTA 6: in the meantime, let us know with a comment what you think about it.
