Wreckfest 2 was announced with a trailer during the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2024: it is the new episode of the series developed by Bugbear Entertainment, the team behind the famous FlatOut saga.
Coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, Wreckfest 2 aims to relaunch the exhilarating formula that so many users enjoyed with the first chapter, as well as offering even more realistic and sophisticated body deformation technology.
As you may know, the original Wreckfest was intended as a sort of spiritual sequel to the classic Destruction Derby, but without limiting itself to demolition races and also including numerous traditional challenges in its campaign.
Driving powerful muscle cars as well as unlikely vehicles, from lawnmowers to buses, the game asked us to express all the violence we were capable of as we tried to demolish opponents and/or cross the finish line first.
Even more noisy: the trailer
The original Wreckfest launched on Steam in 2018, following a long Early Access journey that allowed the developers to refine and enrich the experience, which later landed on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
The sequel will try to push the accelerator even more, we have no doubts about that, and the trailer you see above already gives a first idea of the exaggerated atmospheres that we will be able to breathe during the races, between one bump and another.
With several years having passed since the release of the first Wreckfest, one might expect a substantial improvement in the technologies employed by Bugbear Entertainment, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out the details.
