As part of the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2024 broadcast, a large video was presented demonstrating the game world and features of the remake of the first Gothic. The project is being created by Alkimia Interactive without the participation of the team responsible for the original series. The new developers respect the original from 2001 and are trying not to disappoint fans.
Gothic 1 Remake promises to expand and deepen the game world, making it more immersive. In particular, the combat system, crafting system and daily routine of ordinary NPCs will be improved. The game will retain the original dark atmosphere and plot. The events take place in an area with mines, surrounded by a magic dome, where prisoners mine magic ore for King Rabar. The convicts rebel and partially seize power. As a result, several opposing factions are formed. We play as a nameless prisoner who must decide the fate of this place. And we will also have to face a demon, which the followers of a local cult are trying to awaken.
The game is being developed on the modern Unreal Engine 5, which means high system requirements. The new Gothic does not have an exact release date yet. The remake will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
