In keeping with Ubisoft’s strategic vision for the future of video game streaming, the French gaming giant is officially launching its Cloud Gaming service by integrating it into the Ubisoft Connect digital platform.
It should be noted that Ubisoft’s new cloud-based offering does not rely on other video game streaming services already available (such as Amazon Luna or Xbox Cloud Gaming), but appears to be based exclusively on the French company’s cloud gaming technologies.
At the time of writing, the service is already available in some countries with a free trial of the streaming version of Avatar Frontiers of Pandora accessible from Ubisoft Connect (only from the application and not the browser version).
According to the first testimonies from the community, Ubisoft’s new proprietary cloud gaming solution requires about a minute to connect to the servers but, once streaming has started, it appears to be able to offer a rather fluid, responsive gaming experience (thanks to the low latency perceived by early users) and without visual artifacts, with a video streaming flow calibrated to 1080p resolution and graphics preset set to the maximum level of detail.
Only with time, however, will we understand if the cloud gaming technology just launched by Ubisoft will be limited to the ‘cloud’ test of Avatar Frontiers of Pandora or if, as everything suggests, it will extend to other video games, both from the French publisher and third-party players. After all, it was exactly a year ago that Microsoft announced the transfer of the cloud gaming rights of Activision Blizzard games to Ubisoft, as part of the strategies implemented by the Redmond company to meet the requests of antitrust authorities such as the CMA.
