It’s now official: Avowed has been delayed by Microsoft and has a new release date: the game made by Obsidian Entertainment will be available on PC and Xbox Series X|S starting February 18, 2025, instead of this fall.
What were the reasons for the postponement? On the one hand, to place the publication of the long-awaited RPG in a less crowded period, so as to give it the right space; on the other, to give the development team all the time necessary for a launch that lives up to expectations.
“We’re proud of what the team at Obsidian Entertainment has accomplished so far with Avowed and want to make sure they have the best launch possible,” Phil Spencer wrote. “We can’t wait for you to play it, along with the rest of the games and content coming this year and beyond.”
Meanwhile, the official Xbox profile on Twitter reminded that Avowed will be the protagonist of a new presentation on August 23, as part of the livestream organized on the occasion of Gamescom 2024.
Confirmed rumors, once again
The announcement of the delay of Avowed only confirmed the rumors that the game would not arrive in 2024, reported in this case by the journalist Tom Warren on the pages of The Verge. Rumors that this time proved to be well-founded.
During the latest presentations, Avowed appeared basically complete and ready for launch, but Microsoft’s reasoning is legitimate both in terms of timing and the possibility of giving Obsidian more time to finish all the necessary finishing touches.
