Sony’s multiplayer shooter Concord is approaching its release on August 23 for PC and PS5. However, despite its imminent release, the project continues to elicit a mixed reaction from the community. And even the beta testing that was conducted was unable to significantly change the skeptical attitude of many gamers.
In an attempt to demonstrate the success of the beta version, the developers presented an infographic with impressive numbers. According to this data, test participants captured over 537,000 zones, received over 1.7 million in-game rewards and made 12.3 million virtual kills. In addition, the most popular characters became known: Theo turned out to be the leader, followed by Haymar and Lennox. The top five is rounded out by Jabali and Roka.
But there is one interesting detail here, or rather, its absence. The published statistics did not include a rather important indicator – the actual number of beta test participants. This omission becomes especially noticeable in light of information about the peak online on Steam, which barely exceeded the 2000 concurrent players mark.
In light of these facts, the future of Concord looks uncertain. Given the current situation, one can only guess how long the project will last in its original form. It is possible that in the event of low performance after release, the developers will be forced to reconsider the business model. In this case, switching to a free-to-play system may be one of the options for saving the game. However, if this does not help attract a sufficient number of players, the most pessimistic scenario cannot be ruled out – the complete closure of the project.
