If Fallout: London were a normal release, you would probably have to tear your hair out: Complaints are piling up in the forums and on Reddit, with more and more players reporting crashes, quest bugs, broken beer mats and horrendous loading times that repeatedly interrupt the flow of the game. Even the installation is a challenge for some Steam users.
But Fallout: London is not a normal release, quite the opposite. It is a huge mod, completely free. Completely created by fans, without help from Bethesda, without professional Q&A. And on top of that, it is a mod for Fallout 4 (buy now 79.99 € / 7,49 € ) – a game that never ran perfectly from a technical perspective, not even with the current next-gen update.
The fact that Fallout: London is somehow finished and playable commands my utmost respect. The project is a tremendous achievement! But I can also understand very well that the mod is currently still which leaves many fans with long faces. After all, expectations were damn high: A completely new Fallout adventurehuge game world, fresh quests, factions, weapons and so much more. That almost sounded too good to be true. But crashes ruin the fun of the game, and even the best ambitions can’t change that.
Those: Team FOLON
Team Folon, the development team behind Fallout: London, is already working on a first patch. But until then, we’ll just have to make do with some things ourselves. With these simple fixes, Fallout: London has been running pretty well for me for about 20 hours. Not perfect, no – I still have a few bugs and every few hours it crashes. But the gaming experience is already so much better for me than it was at launch. So why not give it a try – maybe it will work for you too?
Small hint: I use the Fallout 4 GOTY Edition via GOG. The fixes should also work with the Steam version. In any case, you should use a “fresh” installation of Fallout 4 for Fallout: London and avoid using any other mods for the time being.
Tip 1: Buffout 4 can help with crashes
You’ve probably heard of it before. If not, get the Buffout 4 mod, it fixes some engine problems that already plagued Fallout 4.
You can download the mod Download for free from Nexusmods here.Extract the zip file and look for the “F4SE” folder. Now open the Fallout 4 installation directory. (In the case of GOG Galaxy, this would be GOG Galaxy\Games\Fallout 4 GOTY)Open the “Data” folder, which should already contain an F4SE directory. Now drag the new “F4SE” folder that you just extracted from your zip file over the old one to copy the new files into it.Then go back to your Fallout 4 root directory (where Fallout4.exe is located). Use f4se_loader.exe to start Fallout: London.

Tip 2: Disable Weapon Debris
This setting was a real problem in Fallout 4, so you should definitely turn it off. Weapon debris creates nice particle effects when you shoot at something. They don’t add anything to the gameplay, but they do cause crashes on a regular basis. Nobody needs them!
To turn off the weapon debris effect for Fallout: London, you either have to manually type in an INI – or you can simply use the Fallout 4 launcher, which is much quicker. To do this, start Fallout 4 once via GOG Galaxy, then the launcher will open. Here you go to the graphics options and select the “Details” tab under “Advanced Options”. There you will find weapon debris – you should turn this option off completely.

Tip 3: Reduce loading times
There are several mods for Fallout 4 that attempt to get the often gruelingly long loading times under control. Long Loading Time Fix seems to be the tool of choice for many players, but I have opted for a different method. I prefer to use the (very) old Load Accelerator mod, which I have had very good experiences with. It is easy to install and runs absolutely flawlessly for me. I played through Fallout 4 with it in over 150 hours, without any problems. The loading times were now only a few seconds long – a relief!
Fallout: London also seems to work with the mod. I’ve only been using it for about 15 hours, but so far I haven’t had any problems. The loading times were significantly shorter and I haven’t seen the annoying, endless loading screen (which you can simply Alt+Tab out of) since then.
You will find Load Accelerator as usual at Nexusmods. There are also brief English instructions there. Installation is child’s play, you basically just have to copy two files into the Fallout 4 directory (not the Fallout London directory!) and then make a few settings in the graphics driver. This is done in a few seconds and does not affect other games. Another plus: if the mod does not work properly, it can be removed in a matter of seconds, as it does not make any changes to the game files.

Despite the next-gen update, Fallout 4’s technology is flawed. But I’ve finally gotten rid of the most annoying bug – and it didn’t take me a minute.
Tip 4: Fix buggy beer mats
In Fallout: London, you don’t collect bobbleheads to get strong, permanent bonuses. Instead, you have to keep your eyes peeled for very specific beer mats that have the same effect as the bobbleheads. However, it turns out that some of the beer mats are completely bugged, and in the worst case, you even get significant disadvantages (such as too little weapon damage). Until Team Folon provides a corresponding patch, you can alternatively download the “Beer Mats fix” mod. grab on Nexusmodsthat solves the problem.
