Swen Vincke explains that when something is very successful, people ask, “When are you going to do the next one?” And he thinks that as a developer, when you come out of your sad little cave that you’ve been in for hours on end trying to get something done, you can feel vulnerable.

At this vulnerable time, Vincke was actually open to the idea of making more Baldur’s Gate games, such as creating new content or just making a sequel because that would be the easier route to take.
He explained that the Larian Studios team started working on it. That’s because they already have the Engine and everything else they need, Larian Studios just needs to add some new levels and stories. Vincke said “what’s so hard about making that”. The progress can be fast because ‘the production engine is still warm’.

But the CEO felt that this work would not go smoothly. That’s because his team felt that this would be repeated work up to 10 times and would continue for the next 3 years.
For the game expansion, Swen Vincke felt it was not worth it. Meanwhile, when asked about Baldur’s Gate 4, he thought it was a good idea. They could make a lot of things for this game and people would like it.
However, Larian Studios felt that making a sequel to the game would be ‘the same old thing they’ve been doing’ and that it wasn’t very promising for Swen Vincke and his team.
