The project was developed for about four years.
Disney and Lucasfilm have dropped the Star Wars Lando Calrissian film, tells directed and written by Justin Simien. Donald Glover was originally set to star in the film.
According to Simien, the project was “pretty much worked out”: a script was written for the Lando film, a project bible was prepared, and concept art was drawn. Simien did not specify why Disney and Lucasfilm decided to cancel the project.

The Lando Calrissian project has been in development since at least 2020, when it was announced during the Disney Investor Day presentation. At first, they planned to make a series about Calrissian, but in 2023, the project turned into a film.
