Spoiler: it won’t be easy to notice the changes.
The next update will not only add fishing to the medieval strategy Manor Lords, but will also move the game to the Unreal Engine 5; the current version is made on Unreal Engine 4. Manor Lords developer Greg Stikzen toldwhich will not use one of the main features of the engine.
As Greg explains, when porting Manor Lords to the new engine, he had to disable the Lumen global illumination system. The developer found that its performance impact was not justified by the visual improvements.
As proof, Greg posted a couple of screenshots of Manor Lords on Unreal Engine 5 with the Lumen system enabled and disabled.
The changes were minimal. If you look closely, you can see the changed shading on trees and buildings, but overall, with the improved lighting, the graphics in Manor Lords look about the same as without it.
Overall, Greg promises, migrating to Unreal Engine 5 will make the frame rate in Manor Lords more stable. The minimum frame rate will increase, the maximum will decrease a little, but overall it’s worth it.
A patch moving Manor Lords to Unreal Engine 5 is due out soon.
