At the end of the THQ Nordic Showcase 2024, the return of Darksiders was announced through a new game for the joy of all fans. And while waiting to get your hands on the next iteration of the brand, it might be a good idea to rediscover the rest of the series.
Not counting the re-releases of the first two episodes, there are currently 4 Darksiders games published, capable of capturing the attention of the public thanks to their unique atmospheres and engaging gameplay, as well as always changing the cards on the table following their own well-defined gaming path. But which is the best Darksiders ever made? Let’s find out through the appropriate ranking:
4 – Darksiders III
Taking inspiration from Soulslikes and Metroidvanias, Darksiders III is considered the least successful chapter of the series currently in the hands of THQ Nordic. On Metacritic, the averages for the game range from 58 for the Nintendo Switch version to 70 for the PC edition, but overall the adventure starring Furia has failed to fully convince even fans of the brand, who are more attached to the style adopted by its two predecessors.
3 – Darksiders Genesis
A spin-off and prequel featuring War and Conflict, Darksiders Genesis features Diablo-style gameplay focused not only on single player but also on co-op, offering a different way to experience the franchise as it was known up until that point. There was room for improvement as demonstrated by the still good metascore of 77 for all versions (except for the Switch, with an average of 74), but in any case Darksiders Genesis proved to be a very interesting experiment. From that moment on we then wondered what had become of Darksiders given that a new main chapter seemed to have disappeared into thin air, until the final surprise of the THQ Nordic showcase.
2 – Darksiders
Where it all began in 2010. The original Darksiders immediately attracted the attention of critics and fans for its God of War-style combat and a puzzle-and-exploration approach reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda, all topped off with evocative and inspired art direction. The result is a product of excellent quality with averages ranging from 82 on PS3 to 83 achieved on PC and Xbox 360. Getting to know the imposing knight Guerra was a real pleasure.
1 – Darksiders II
It’s not easy to decide which of the first two games is better, but Darksiders II could easily be considered the pinnacle of the series so far. Embracing action/RPG mechanics, the Death-centric adventure proved even bigger, more elaborate and full of surprises than its predecessor, keeping players glued to the screen with its spectacular battles and immersive game world. Metacritic speaks clearly: with averages ranging from 81 on PC to 85 on Wii U, Darksiders II absolutely deserves to be played and replayed, in the hope that the next game in the series will prove to be on par with it if not even greater.
They are Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope – Nintendo Switch is one of the best-selling games today.
