Xbox has been releasing fewer games than Playstation in recent years. This was especially noticeable last generation, where the Playstation 4 sold significantly more than the Xbox One. Recently, more and more developers have noted that they don’t see the point in optimizing their games for Xbox Series X | S, given the presence of a smaller, less powerful console, when looking at the overall player base on the platform.
Developers from S-GAME, the studio behind Phantom Blade Zero, told journalists on ChinaJoy that they currently have no plans to release a version for Xbox Series X | S. It’s not because of exclusivity agreements with Sony, as they’ve said before, but because “nobody needs Xbox,” as stated one of the team representatives, who wished to remain anonymous.
S-GAME is primarily targeting the Asian audience (Japan, China, Korea) when releasing Phantom Blade Zero. And Xbox consoles perform the weakest in Asian markets. Recall that with the release of the Xbox Series X | S generation, the Microsoft Gaming team made active efforts to promote in Japan and other Asian regions. But this year, the only Japanese studio (Tango Gameworks) was closed, the prices for Xbox Series X | S were raised twice, and the company refused to participate in the Tokyo Game Show.
At the moment, the game Phantom Blade Zero does not have an exact release date. The project itself is an action RPG. According to rumors, the project is planned to be released by the fall of 2026.
