A lot can be compensated for by Hopper.
It would be naive to see the reluctance of NVIDIA representatives to comment on yesterday’s rumors about the possibility of delaying the release of Blackwell generation accelerators to the market as direct indications of the existence of such problems. Maximum secrecy is a characteristic information strategy for the company, and the founder believes it is one of the keys to the company’s success on the market. As noted by Barron’sNVIDIA representatives simply responded to a request to comment on rumors regarding the Blackwell delay with information about the start of deliveries of engineering samples and the company’s readiness to increase deliveries of finished products in the second half of this year. Demand for Hopper accelerators remains very high, as NVIDIA emphasized.

Perhaps, in the current circumstances, the last part of the statement may be even more important for assessing the situation. Mizuho analysts believe that one B200 accelerator would cost customers between $30,000 and $40,000, while the price tag for the more powerful GB200 would range from $50,000 to $70,000. UBS experts believe that from November of this year to January of next year inclusive, NVIDIA would be able to ship 32,500 B200 accelerators and 43,400 GB200 accelerators. In fact, representatives of the Blackwell family would still form no more than 7% of the accelerators that NVIDIA intends to ship in the fourth quarter.
In total, they would bring it about $3 billion in revenue, which is about 9% of the amount NVIDIA is able to earn during the period. And no one claims that Blackwell accelerators will not be supplied at all during this time. That is, some part of the revenue will still be provided by them. Secondly, the company will still compensate for the income lost due to a possible delay in Blackwell with the supply of Hopper accelerators, since it still cannot fully satisfy the demand for them. That is, NVIDIA’s possible financial losses from the delay in Blackwell supplies are limited to rather modest amounts.
