Baldur’s Gate 3 was Larian Studios’ biggest, most ambitious, and most acclaimed project, establishing itself as one of the most popular games in recent years. In fact, its impact is such that Baldur’s Gate 3 is more popular than many games in 2024. But the Belgian studio is not resting on its laurels.
With Baldur’s Gate 3 approaching its anniversary, Larian Studios founder and CEO Sven Vincke spoke about his company’s upcoming projects in an interview with PC Gamer, hinting that his team’s goal is to make even bigger role-playing games in the future: “Our machine is built to make games of great scale. We were born to make bigger and more ambitious RPG games and to try out new ideas,” the CEO emphasizes.
And if that’s not enough, Vincke adds: “We know exactly what we want from the gameplay we develop, we know how to evolve it and how to create new things. And it’s really big stuff.” In short, there’s still no word on the next RPG from Larian Studios, but expectations are already high in light of the huge success of Baldur’s Gate 3. The idea of a game that’s even bigger and more ambitious than their last work on paper would seem unlikely, but who knows how the Belgian company will surprise its fans.
The only certainty is that Larian Studios will not be revisiting Baldur’s Gate, which has now been left behind: for a while, Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 4 existed and was even playable, but the company eventually decided to let it go and look towards new horizons.
