In addition to videos dedicated to the core mechanics and Precision mode of Monster Hunter Wilds, this morning Capcom also published an in-depth look entirely dedicated to the Greatsword, likely the first of a series of videos focusing on the 14 types of weapons in the game.
Those who have mastered the weapon in previous chapters of the series will notice similarities with this new iteration. In fact, even in Wilds the fighting style of the Greatsword is characterized by limited mobility when the weapon is drawn, counterbalanced by powerful slashes, which can be charged for a few moments to increase the damage, with the risk, however, of remaining exposed to enemy attacks. The ability to parry incoming blows by using the blade as a sort of makeshift shield also returns.
The New Moves of the Greatsword
In short, the basic mechanics of the weapon do not seem to have changed much from Monster Hunter World, but there are some new features that could substantially change the approach to hunting. The most interesting is represented by what appears to be a powerful counterattack in which the hunter executes a vertical slash from the bottom to the top, making the poor Doshaguma seen in the video fall over, followed by a dash forward and two slashes on the helpless monster.
Through Precision mode, the protagonist of a dedicated video shown today, it is also possible to perform new targeted attacks on the weak or injured points of monsters, which will apparently vary depending on the part targeted.
As mentioned at the outset, this is likely the first of 14 weapons-focused videos for Monster Hunter Wilds, with more to come on a regular basis between now and the game’s release, which is slated for sometime in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
