There’s something wrong with Paradox Interactive’s games. After several delays, Prison Architect 2 has been pushed back again and that doesn’t sound particularly reassuring.
What is it with the games that run under the Paradox Interactive label? First the debacle with Cities Skylines 2, then the life simulation Life By You was thrown in the trash and there is still little concrete information about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. And now the publisher’s next game is being hit again.
Prison Architect 2 has already been delayed a few times and was supposed to be released in September, but that hasn’t happened either. As the publisher has now announced, the management game is now being postponed indefinitely, which indicates huge problems in development. Especially since the studio also announced that any pre-orders will be refunded.
A statement on the Paradox forum also gives reasons. “Our ongoing internal reviews and beta testing groups have highlighted areas that we need to focus more on, especially performance and content, which we need to address before release to ensure that you, the players, have a good experience with the game,” it says. And further: “We need to increase the quality a bit more to reach the standards we want to achieve with this sequel.”
It is currently completely uncertain when the game will be released and concrete statements are unlikely to be expected in the foreseeable future. The statement sounds as if large parts of the game will have to be re-rolled: “At this point in time, we cannot commit to a new release date as we need to re-evaluate the amount of work that still needs to be done before the game is ready for release. Over the next few months, we will focus on improving the game and creating a more stable release schedule. This also means that we will limit our communication with all of you until we have a schedule that we are comfortable with.”
