Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke and Baldur’s Gate 3 lead writer Adam Smith spoke to PC Gamer about the studio’s work on two future RPGs.
When asked if Larian was going to sacrifice the size of these RPGs by developing two games at once, Vincke answered: “The machine is designed to make big games. We’re meant to make huge, ambitious RPGs and try new things.”
“We actually already know what we want from the gameplay systems, how to develop them, how to make new elements… and all these (plans) are big,” Vincke intrigued fans in an interview with PC Gamer.
Vincke also reiterated his passion for the science fiction genre. “Yes, of course,” the Larian CEO said of his interest in potentially moving beyond fantasy. “So much ambition, so little time.”
According to Smith, one of the biggest challenges in developing new Larian games has been that many of the ideas for future projects that the studio is currently coming up with have actually already been implemented in Baldur’s Gate 3.
“You’re constantly trying to make sure that players are getting new experiences, trying to avoid repetition and piling on content for the sake of content,” Smith explained of Larian’s approach.
Among the upcoming RPGs from Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate 4 is definitely not. Although the studio began work on a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 (and an add-on for it), the creators quickly came to their senses.
