When it comes to the question of the best and most successful action games ever, the name of God of War almost inevitably comes up. This is hardly surprising, after all, the adventures of the battle-mad Kratos are one of the most popular franchises ever. Since its debut in 2005, the action series has broken numerous records and is still extremely popular today. It is therefore completely understandable that fans are yearning for another game. When is the new God of War coming out? There is now less pleasant news on this.
How successful is God of War really?
On March 22, 2005, Sony Santa Monica released the then-unknown action game God of War for the PS2. The Californian developer laid the foundation for a huge success story: Kratos’ first adventure was already an absolute bestseller. The epic boss battles and the graphic power of God of War were particularly well received by fans and remain one of the trademarks of the franchise to this day.
Numerous sequels and spin-offs followed for various platforms, and Kratos even found its way onto the PC. In total, God of War has sold more than 66 million copies worldwide. It would be a real shock if God of War Ragnarök (buy now for €59.99) was the last game in the franchise. But what about the future of the series?
Is Sony Santa Monica working on the new God of War?
In recent months, there have been repeated rumors and hints that work on a new God of War may have already begun. Official confirmation is still pending. However, no one would be surprised if Sony Santa Monica were actually working on another adventure with Kratos. Or will it turn out completely differently?
Leaker “Ashhong” recently made some interesting statements to ResetEra. According to him, Sony Santa Monica is currently working on a big surprise that most fans probably didn’t really know about. He didn’t give any concrete details, but it doesn’t necessarily sound like a new God of War.
“I can’t wait for Santa Monica to announce their game. I really don’t know how people are going to react. (…) I’ll just say that it’s different and probably not something anyone would expect.”
