On the one hand, Larian Studios promises even bigger RPGs than Baldur’s Gate 3 in the future, on the other hand, the Belgian studio is aware that coming up with original ideas and concepts for their next project will be a real challenge. This is because they have already tried everything with Baldur’s Gate 3.
Speaking to the PC Gamer portal, Larian Studios’ writing director Adam Smith explained that the team is currently having some difficulties in coming up with new gameplay, aesthetic and narrative solutions to apply to its next project: “One of the biggest problems we’re having right now is that every time we talk about a new idea we answer that we’ve already experimented with it in Baldur’s Gate 3. In fact, we’ve done a lot of things with Baldur’s Gate 3,” Smith explained.
The writing director specifies, however, that this same problem had also arisen when Baldur’s Gate 3 was in full development, with the team wondering on several occasions whether players had already experienced certain challenges, dialogues and events in other previous productions of the company: “We always try to make sure that players always live new experiences, without repeating ourselves and without creating content for its own sake”, underlines Smith regarding the philosophy adopted by Larian Studios for the development of its games.
As has already happened in the past, therefore, it is very likely that the guys from the Belgian studio will finally be able to find original and convincing solutions, thus giving their fans a new unforgettable experience. For a while, among other things, Baldur’s Gate 4 by Larian actually existed and was even playable, but the team eventually decided to abandon the project to focus on something different.
