As well as it was promisedOn August 6, the co-op shooter Helldivers 2 from the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios received the largest update in its history – Escalation of Freedom.
The patch, already released on PC and PS5, has upgraded Helldivers 2 to version 1.001.002 and brought with it important changes, including the tenth difficulty level (“Mega Hell”) and new types of enemies (Impaler from Terminids, Missile Tank from Automatons).
Additionally, Escalation of Freedom introduces two additional mission objectives: storming the human processing automata factories to destroy the biorefiner, and retrieving a live Terminid larval sample from deep within their territory.
Also announced are larger enemy outposts (Terminid Strongholds and Automaton Fortresses), a more sinister version of the swamp planet, and new weather conditions (an acid storm that damages armor).
Among other things, the patch introduced a new system of protection against unjustified exclusion from the session (allows you to complete a task that has already been started), increased performance and eliminated a number of crashes.
Finally, the developers have made several gameplay improvements, balance adjustments, and fixed many bugs. The full list of changes (in Russian) can be found in Steam publications.
Helldivers 2 was released on February 8th only on PC (not available in Russian Steam) and PS5. In three months, sales exceeded 12 million copies. In May, a scandal erupted around the game due to the mandatory linking of a PSN account on a PC.
