It’s been almost 30 years since the PS1 made its debut in Japan. And Sony’s cult console has helped several classic games to become a success in its long career. Highlights such as Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7, Gran Turismo, Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Tekken celebrated their premiere here. But in the 90s, another iconic title laid the foundation for one of the most popular game series of the generation.
Together with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, Activision and Neversoft released Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, the first of many skateboarding games, in 1999. Just 13 months later, a sequel was released, which is still one of the most popular offshoots in the series. The soundtrack of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 in particular was one of the highlights of the game. So it’s no wonder that Activision wanted to bring back the nostalgia of the two classics with a new edition about four years ago.
New look for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
In September 2020 – almost 20 years after the release of the two original games – Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, a remake for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, was released. A few months later, versions for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch followed. We also took a close look at the new edition in our test at the time.
