When it comes to the question of current blockbuster films that dominate all the charts these days, the usual names immediately come to mind. Deadpool & Wolverine is currently breaking one record after another, and the disaster adventure Twisters is also currently making headlines. Despite this dominance, there is now a pretty big surprise, because all of these cinema highlights have to admit defeat to a completely crazy action blockbuster – and it hasn’t even been released in cinemas yet.
When is Borderlands in cinemas?
The film adaptation of the Borderlands shooter series, which is as crazy as it is successful, has already had to endure a somewhat longer ordeal. The first reports about the project appeared many years ago. Unfortunately, the actual filming did not go entirely smoothly, and there were some delays, not only due to the global corona pandemic.
But now the cinema release is imminent: Borderlands (buy now) will celebrate its big premiere on August 9, 2024 – at least in the USA. Fans in Germany, however, will have to wait until August 22. Then they can watch the certainly equally crazy shooter film on the big screen. Incidentally, it has an all-star cast: In addition to Hollywood icon Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings), Kevin Hart (Ride Along), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Jack Black (Jumanji) are on board. The director is horror expert Eli Roth (Hostel 2). But why is the film already causing a sensation?
Borderlands dominates the charts
Although Borderlands hasn’t even been released in theaters yet, the action film is already leaving all the competition behind. The home cinema version is somewhat surprisingly at the top of Amazon’s bestseller charts. According to current plans, the steelbook including the Blu-ray will not be released until December 6, 2024.

There is bad news for fans of Game of Thrones. The end of House of the Dragon is a done deal.
The disaster film Twisters mentioned at the beginning will be available to buy as a disc version from October 24th, but is only in sixth place in the Amazon charts. It remains to be seen whether Borderlands will be able to hold on to the bestseller throne after its official cinema release. But it is certainly a nice snapshot for everyone involved.
