Arrowhead simply has a talent for annoying Helldivers 2 players with nerfs. The latest patch is causing a stir again, and at an inopportune time.
With “Escalation of Freedom”, Helldivers 2 has once again received a comprehensive update that has a whole range of new features on board, such as new enemies, a higher level of difficulty, fortified outposts and much more. Actually good, if it weren’t for one tiny change from the Nerf department.
The same applies to the flamethrowers, which have been the standard means of eliminating the heavily armored chargers. Unfortunately, there is one aspect that fundamentally changes the behavior of the weapons: “The flame does not pass through various bodies/objects from which it would be expected to bounce off, such as armor and static objects.” In addition, flame effects are now supposed to be more realistic.
This change means that the sensitive underside of the Charger is now much harder to reach with the flamethrower and other weak spots can no longer be set on fire. The result: countless complaints from players that the flamethrower is now useless and no longer fun. And people are slowly getting fed up with the constant nerfs.
The timing of the nerf is suspicious, because the new Battle Pass, which starts tomorrow, will bring new fire-based weapons into the game. It is obvious that the fire effects have been adjusted again so that everything works smoothly. But players also suspect that the nerf is intended to force them to buy the new Battle Pass in order to get the new weapons.
It remains to be seen whether Arrowhead will respond to the complaints and how everything will fit together once the new The Freedom’s Flame Warbond is active. Perhaps the current state is just a transitional phase and everything will be fine. Or maybe not.
