This week, the developers at Arrowead released the content update for the multiplayer shooter “Helldivers 2” called “Escalation of Freedom”. As the user reviews of the last few hours show, the update has not only been well received by the community.
Under the name “Escalation of Freedom”, the developers at Arrowhead made the largest content update to date for the multiplayer shooter “Helldivers 2” available for download yesterday.
The content on offer includes new enemy types and missions that are designed to present tough challenges even to experienced players. In addition to the new content, Arrowhead made further adjustments to the game itself and the balancing. There were changes here that were not only well received by the community.
Instead, in the hours following the release of “Escalation of Freedom,” it became apparent that some players with the balancing adjustments is anything but happy. Those affected gave vent to their displeasure, particularly on Steam.
Review bombing the third
As the statistics show on SteamDB As can be seen, some players decided to resort to so-called review bombing to let the developers know of their dissatisfaction with the new update. Within 24 hours, there were more than 2,000 negative reviews for “Helldivers 2” on Steam.
This is the third time that the developers have been confronted with a review bombing. However, it should be noted that the players’ frustration is currently much less than it was in May.
At the time, the announcement that “Helldivers 2” would be made PSN-mandatory on PC, which was subsequently withdrawn, caused an outcry in the community. At the same time, there was an extensive review bombing on Steam, which led to the general user rating of “Helldivers 2” temporarily falling to “balanced” in May.
There were also numerous negative user reviews in the first few days after the release, when Arrowhead was surprised by the success of “Helldivers 2” and was initially unable to guarantee stable server operation.
This bothers the players
One of the most criticized changes in Escalation of Freedom is the nerf of the flamethrower, which was made just as a flamethrower-focused war bond was about to launch.
The new rocket tank and the various adjustments to the weapons are also criticized by part of the community.
It is unclear whether and in what form the negative ratings on Steam will lead to Arrowhead making further improvements in these areas. In the past, the studio has at least repeatedly demonstrated its closeness to the community and recently asked for ideas on how to use resources in the future.
“Helldivers 2” is available for PC and PS5.
