The official announcement of GTA 6 was more than half a year ago. There are still many months to go until the planned release. However, aside from a few leaks, things are still surprisingly quiet around the “most important video game of all time”. Sure, there have been a few tidbits of information, and the next Grand Theft Auto is always making headlines anyway. But developer Rockstar Games is still largely silent. Is this a cause for concern for fans? A former employee has now commented on the matter – with some interesting statements.
When will GTA 6 be released?
The first trailer for GTA 6 already stated that the open world action game, which many fans have been waiting for, will not be released until 2025 – initially for consoles, with a PC version not in sight at least for now. Publisher Take-Two Interactive recently narrowed down the time frame for the release somewhat.
However, there is still no concrete release date. Since Rockstar Games has remained tight-lipped, especially after the annoying mega leak, some fans fear that the game or its release could be in danger. According to a former employee of the team, however, this has a completely different reason.
Why doesn’t Rockstar Games talk about GTA 6?
Normally, developers hardly miss an opportunity to praise their upcoming games as loudly as possible and to promote every little feature. Okay, in the case of GTA 6, the argument could very well hold that the trailer speaks for itself and no further advertising is necessary. Nevertheless, the persistent silence from Rockstar Games is quite striking.
Obbe Vermeij, however, sees it from a different perspective. He worked at Rockstar Games for 14 years and worked on GTA San Andreas and GTA Vice City, among others. The former employee told the Spanish magazine Vida Extra that he could very well understand the development studio’s current behavior around GTA 6.
“I can totally understand why they do it. Every time a big company says something, whether it’s Rockstar, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft or whoever, it’s immediately scrutinized and often interpreted negatively. So the best thing they can do from their perspective is keep quiet.”

Of course, this is just a guess on Obbe Vermeij’s part, even if the reasoning seems quite plausible. Do you share his opinion? Are studios like Rockstar Games deliberately withholding information because they are afraid of fan feedback? Feel free to discuss in our forum!
