On August 8, the Five Nights at Freddy’s series will turn ten years old. In anticipation of the anniversary, developers from California-based Steel Wool Studios announced a new game in the famous horror universe — Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic.
The first teaser does not contain any gameplay footage or a list of platforms, but it points to a release in 2025 and hints at the time of the game’s action (1979). The new part will likely be the earliest in the series in terms of chronology (currently, the first place is occupied by Five Nights at Freddy’s 4, which tells the story of what happened in 1983) and will reveal the backstory of the Mimic.
The developers call the project “a new original nightmare in the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe.” “Sometimes you need to understand the past to see the future,” the authors intrigue.
In the 16 hours since its publication, the video has received more than 492 thousand views, 57 thousand likes and only 272 dislikes.
Steel Wool Studios created Five Nights at Freddyʼs: Security Breach (2021), as well as Five Nights at Freddyʼs VR: Help Wanted (2019) with the expansion Ruin and Five Nights at Freddyʼs VR: Help Wanted 2 (2023). The VR games were well received by players and critics – both parts of Help Wanted have a rating of over 90% on Steam (96 % and 94 % based on 11 thousand and 3.6 thousand reviews respectively). Security Breach did not receive very high marks from the press (the average score on Metacritic — 64/100), but the fans liked it (86 % (based on 57.5 thousand reviews in the Valve store).
Several projects are dedicated to the celebration of the tenth anniversary. On August 8, Mega Cat Studio will release the pixel adventure horror Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into The Pit based on the book “Into the Pit” from the Fazbear Frights series. In the summer of 2025, in the asymmetrical horror Dead by Daylight there will be a crossover with Five Nights at Freddy’s. There are no details about the expansion yet, but it will most likely add a chapter with killer animatronics.
In addition, a second film in the franchise is in production, again directed by Emma Tammi. Premiere of the sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s planned on December 5, 2025, and filming may begin in October.
