The news of Ready At Dawn’s closure reopens old wounds, bleeding wounds that bear the name The Order 1886 2. One of the most controversial first-generation PS4 exclusives never got a sequel but apparently RAD was somehow working on it.
It’s not the first time that it’s been talked about and now even the insider Shinobi admits to “having heard” of the ambitious plans of Ready At Dawn for the sequel to The Order 1886, with the engine already partly ready and optimized the team had plans to take the gameplay to the next level. Shinobi imagines a clear leap like the one between Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed 2 to give you an idea.
Now it must be said that over the years there have been several rumors about the sequel to The Order 1886 and the founders themselves have often spoken of the desire to create a new game in the series. The relationship between Sony and Ready At Dawn ended for unknown reasons between 2016 and 2017, two years after the launch of The Order 1886, so even if they wanted to, the studio would not have been able to use the intellectual property, with the brand The Order 1886 firmly in the hands of Sony.
Ready At Dawn was acquired by Meta in June 2020, so we can say that ideally the potential work on the sequel to The Order 1886 dates back at least three or four years before the end of the collaboration with Sony PlayStation. Now that’s over: Ready At Dawn has closed its doors forever after having worked in recent years on games like Lone Echo and Lone Echo 2 for Meta Quest.
