Blizzard Entertainment has nerfed, or nerfed, a unique Diablo IV weapon introduced in Season 5 that allowed you to gain experience points very quickly. Too quickly.
Within hours of the new season launch, players began to get millions of points for no apparent reason after killing certain enemies. We’re talking about 20-30 level jumps at a time. The developers quickly identified the issue and addressed the situation with a temporary workaround while we wait for a fix.
Too powerful
The bug was tied to The Umbracrux, a unique dagger introduced in Season 5 that creates a Shadow Totem that transfers damage to all nearby enemies at 20% effectiveness. Blizzard’s Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher addressed the issue on August 7 in the game’s official forums, reassuring us that a patch was coming.
“The team was made aware of an issue where players were able to gain a significant amount of experience from killing certain bosses with the unique gear ‘The Umbracrux,’” Fletcher explained. “We will be disabling the weapon’s unique power while we work on a patch. This means players will no longer be able to spawn a Shadow Totem using it,” he continued.
In short, the weapon is still findable and equippable, but its unique effect is temporarily disabled. So you can keep it aside for when the patch is available, in case you still want to use it.
For the rest, we remind you that Diablo IV is available for PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5. It is also playable via subscription to Game Pass, Microsoft’s service.
