The Xbox team is betting heavily on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to attract a new audience to the Game Pass subscription. Increasing sales of Xbox Series X | S is less interesting for the company than expanding the number of subscribers, which Microsoft Gaming executives have repeatedly said. Analysts believe that the release of the new Call of Duty can lead to increased sales of Playstation 5.
GamesIndustry CEO Christopher Dring discussed on their social networks the latest results of Sony in terms of sales of Playstation 5. The company recently reported that 61.8 million game consoles were shipped in total. At the same time, the number of monthly active users of the Playstation Network ecosystem is at the level of 116 million users. A significant number of players have not yet switched to Playstation 5 from Playstation 4, and Christopher Dring expects this transition to happen in the coming months.
According to Dring, in the fall of 2024, many players will notice the same gap between the generations of Playstation 4 and Playstation 5, which has not been observed since the start of sales of the new consoles. Analysts note that the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows will become an incentive to change the consoles of the previous generation to the new one.
Dring’s words were responded to by Tom Warren from The Verge, who reminded him that Black Ops 6 is not exclusive to the new generation of consoles. The game will also be released on Xbox One and Playstation 4. However, Christopher Dring is confident that the differences between the new Call of Duty on the current and previous generations are becoming more noticeable, so players may decide to switch to Playstation 5 now.
Let’s remember that while PlayStation 5 shipments are at 61.8 million units, Xbox Series X | S sales are at around 29 million units.
