Ready at Dawn Officially Closed, Why?

Android Central reported that Meta had closed Ready at Dawn on August 8, 2024. This information was later confirmed by several media outlets, including Gematsu.
A Meta spokesperson told Android Central that Ready at Dawn’s closure was not done to “save money.” Rather, it was done to ensure that Reality Labs stayed within its new budget constraints and that Oculus Studios could make a “better long-term impact” in virtual reality (VR) game development.
Meta added that the closures are not a signal of wider layoffs of first-party games at Meta Quest and that the company remains committed to VR game development.
Android Central notes that Meta is encouraging former Ready at Dawn employees to apply for roles at Oculus Studios and hopes to retain as many employees as possible.
Ready at Dawn was founded in 2003 and acquired by Meta in June 2020 for its capabilities in VR game development.
Outside of the Lone Echo franchise, Ready at Dawn is known for its work on a number of Sony Interactive Entertainment games, including Daxter, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP), God of War: Origins Collection (PS3), and The Order: 1886.
