The Callisto Protocol director Glen Schofield has revealed that the game’s quality suffered because Krafton insisted on releasing it too soon.

Glen Schofield: Krafton Insisted on Releasing The Callisto Protocol Too Soon
Speaking to YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming, Glen Schofield said that Krafton had given him reason to believe he had more time to complete his vision for The Callisto Protocol, only for them to renege on their promise.
I wanted about three and a half more months (to work on the game). I was convinced for about three or four months that that was going to happen. So, in October or September of 2021, I was told, ‘You’ll get your time, no regrets’ – that was the term that kept coming up. No regrets – just put whatever you want into the game.
So I spent that Christmas break just designing, coming up with ideas with a few other people, and (then) January came and some of the (Krafton) guys came and they were just like, ‘No, no, no, it’s December 2022.’
“I was like, ‘This is not going to get done and it’s going to cost more money.’ It’s not like you’re going to spend less money because you can get it done three months early, no, because if I keep going the way I’m going, I don’t need to add anyone. But if you want this done, I have to speed everything up by three and a half months, which means I have to add people here.
Schofield added that development issues were compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a large number of Striking Distance Studios employees to fall ill and decide to leave the studio.
“We were devastated,” Schofield said. “Sometimes our entire VFX department was gone, our entire animation department. On top of that, we had incredible attrition in 2021.”
Schofield added, “49 people quit because everyone else was paying more, so they left with $10,000 more. 2021 was the worst year of my life developing.”
Schofield noted that because of this, there were four bosses and two enemy types that had to be removed from the game.
Reflecting on what he would have done differently in the past, Schofield said: “I would have said, ‘I’m not going to ship it. If you want this game shipped (by December), you come and take over my studio.’”
