At the Future of Memory and Storage (FMS) event, Phison demonstrated its latest developments. It received the Best of Show award for its aiDAPTIV+ hardware and software platform, and also showed off its latest SSD controllers and reference drives.
Phison E31T is positioned as the world’s first PCIe 5.0 SSD controller aimed at the mass market. It allows for read and write speeds of 10,000 MB/s without a heatsink, meaning SSDs with this controller can be installed on laptops. The component offers 1,500 thousand IOPS for reading and writing, as well as support for capacities up to 8 TB. Phison E31T supports M.2 2280 and M.2 2230 form factors.
However, the company is not abandoning the PCIe 4.0 generation yet: the Phison E29T DRAM-free controller, manufactured using TSMC’s 12 nm process technology, promises to become a champion in efficiency and performance: it offers a read speed of up to 7400 MB/s, supports capacities of up to 8 TB, and also supports M.2 2280 and M.2 2230 form factors.
In the enterprise segment, Phison’s Pascari division showed the D200V SSD with 64TB of capacity and PCIe 5.0 support in U.2, E3.S, and E3.L form factors for data centers. It is designed for systems that require large amounts of storage and takes advantage of PCIe 5.0, with sequential read speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s. The SSD provides “increased storage density per rack”; the Pascari D200V uses 8th-generation BiCS Flash QLC memory. The drives in this series will enable storage to scale beyond 100TB, helping to reduce operational costs, added Phison Electronics CEO Pua Khein Seng.
