The Borderlands movie is not a success, at least not as far as the critics’ reaction is concerned. Of course, that’s not the only yardstick, as sometimes the public surprises with their appreciation for certain works and in terms of pure earnings, all parties involved are satisfied.
That said, it’s not promising to see a 3% rating on review aggregate RottenTomatoes.

The current RottenTomatoes rating is obviously temporary, as more ratings will arrive over the next few days. At the moment, however, there are a good number of ratings, namely 33, which allow us to consider the rating a fair indication of the quality of the film.
All the reviews available so far are negative, except for one, written by Grace Randolph and posted on YouTube. The content creator states, “I’ve never played the games, but I was thrilled that Blanchett would star in a film like this – and that she did a great job! I wish the script had been a little more age-appropriate. Blanchett fans will enjoy this film, but I’m not sure about everyone else.”
So it’s not exactly a particularly enthusiastic review, and in the YouTube comments, it’s emphasized that the bulk of the video isn’t really dedicated to the review but rather to various types of insights. Randolph also states that if you liked the Uncharted movie, you’ll also like Borderlands. Sony’s movie has a 40% critics’ score, but at least a 90% among fans. It remains to be seen whether there will be a big gap between the two parts with the Gearbox movie as well.
Aroged also published a review of Borderlands with a final judgment that was anything but positive.
