NCSOFT continues to listen to feedback from the community of its MMORPG Throne and Liberty and make changes to criticized mechanics. During maintenance on August 7, the rune system was significantly simplified. This system appeared in the game on July 24, 2024 and added the ability to insert three runes with bonuses for the character into weapons and jewelry. In total, rune slots come in three colors, and each color has its own chance of appearing:
Attack, red rune color – 10% Defense, blue rune color – 30% Support, yellow rune color – 60%
As you might guess, most players want to get exactly the cells for runes with attack bonuses. However, to unlock a cell or change the color, you need to use a special item called Rune Hammer. And the more attempts you make to get the cell color you need, the more “hammers” are required. It is worth noting that getting “hammers” is not the easiest thing in the game, since the developers planned to stretch the process for a long time.
Players did not appreciate the idea of spending hundreds of hours and expressed their dissatisfaction on the official forum. Two weeks later, this system was significantly simplified: now attempts to change the color always require the same amount of Rune Hammer:
Tier-1 weapons – 2 “hammers”Tier-1 jewelry – 1 “hammer”Tier-2 weapons – 4 “hammers”Tier-2 jewelry – 2 “hammers”
In addition, the game now offers the ability to purchase a limited amount of Rune Hammer using Contract Coin, a currency awarded for completing daily quests.
This easing of the game mechanics is one of the largest of all time since the game’s release in December 2023. On the official forum and on social networks, some users praise the developers for their response to criticism, while others are surprised at how strong the easing turned out to be.
