Lord of the Rings fans take note: after nine months, the indie title The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has finally received release dates for Xbox and Steam.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is not exactly a new title. The game was released for PC in the Epic Games Store in October and for the Playstation 5 in December. Anyone who has been waiting for survival crafting on other platforms will finally find the relief they were hoping for.
Developer Free Range Games has now announced that The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria will finally be released for the Xbox Series X on August 27th. At the same time, the exclusivity at Epic Games will expire and the title will also be available on Steam.
And it gets even better, because parallel to the launch, The Golden Update will be released, a comprehensive patch that will not only give the game cross-play between all platforms, but also a sandbox mode.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria follows the dwarves on their latest adventure, the reconquest of their legendary homeland of Moria beneath the Misty Mountains. Together, players must survive, cultivate and explore the gigantic and notorious mines. The procedurally generated Moria presents no two games with the same challenge and each expedition can be undertaken alone or online with other companions. It goes without saying that unpleasant creatures await you in the depths, attracted by the noise.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria wasn’t exactly a winner in terms of ratings, but the user average on Metacritic is 7/10, which is significantly higher than the press reviews, which pretty much slammed the game with a Metascore of 59. But since it only costs around 20 euros, it might be worth a look for fans of the genre.
