Sk1ds is an amateur developer with a passion for 80s arcade racing games, who has embarked on an epic undertaking, creating a completely free remake of Turbo Outrun, called Turbo OutRun Reimagined. Development is not yet complete, but the game is already playable, both in the browser and as a downloadable version.
How to play and where to download it
In reality, we are talking about a remake that has been enhanced, so much so as to justify the “reimagined” in the title. By starting it, you can choose one of four cars, all strictly from the 80s, and participate in five competitions, in which you have to pass the checkpoints before the timer runs out and you must not be overtaken by your opponents.
Fans of the genre will literally have a field day, considering how well-crafted it is. Speaking of difficulty, there are three gear modes to choose from: 5-speed automatic, which is not only easier to control, but also increases the time limit and makes the driving system more tame, with ABS active and traction control active; 2-speed manual, with the most stringent time limit, ABS active and traction control deactivated; finally, there is the 5-speed manual mode, with the “brutal” time limit, no ABS, and certainly no traction control.
The first mode is recommended for those who play with the keyboard, as well as for beginners, while for the others the use of a controller is recommended.
There are two versions available. The most stable one, “v0.3.8f”, and the test one, “v0.4.0 test2”. You can find both on pagina itch.io di Turbo OutRun Reimaginedwhere you can play directly from your browser if you want.
