With PlayStation VR2, console giant Sony has had a tough crash landing. The VR device was announced with a lot of fanfare, but sales figures for PlayStation VR2 have looked really bad so far. The reason for this is, on the one hand, that there are simply too few games for VR on the PS5 and, on the other hand, that interest in VR on the PlayStation does not seem to be particularly high.
At around €550, the PlayStation VR2 also has a hefty price tag, which deters many gamers from purchasing the VR device from Sony. Now the manufacturer wants to turn things around and has come up with a new strategy for PlayStation VR2.
PlayStation device should still be a success
Sony is of course working hard to make PlayStation VR2 a success. A special adapter is now being developed to ensure this, which will expand the usability of the VR device. With this adapter, PlayStation VR2 can be used not only in combination with a Sony console.
However, interested gamers will have to shell out another €60 for this adapter. Is that really the right strategy? After all, €60 is a pretty steep price for an adapter. The question is: what exactly does this adapter do and which platforms can the gamer use PlayStation VR2 with?

Use PlayStation VR2 on your PC – with a hefty surcharge
The adapter for PlayStation VR2 allows gamers to connect Sony’s VR headset to a PC. This should make PlayStation VR2 compatible with Steam VR. The prerequisite for this is, of course, that the gamer has a Steam account and VR games on Steam.
To connect PlayStation VR2 to a PC, you also need a DisplayPort cable that supports DisplayPort 1.4. This cable is not included with the adapter. In addition, many interesting PlayStation VR2 functions are unfortunately not available via Steam. Gamers therefore have to do without HDR, eye tracking, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. It is therefore questionable whether the adapter for PlayStation VR2 will really sell and ultimately make the VR headset a success.
