Wolfeye Studios, the independent development studio led by Raf Colantonio, founder of Arkane Studios and co-creator of Dishonored and Prey, today presents its new game with the first images and some details.
There is no official title yet, but it is a first-person action role-playing game that has just finished pre-production and is now in full production. In order to test the game’s potential a bit and also get useful feedback from users, Wolfeye plans to launch a limited private Alpha during 2025.
After Weird West and its bizarre magical western, with this new game it seems that the team wants to explore quite different things, at least in terms of setting and general characterization.
A retro-sci-fi first-person RPG
It’s difficult to deduce anything very specific from the fascinating images published today, but at least the “retro sci-fi” setting that the team had already indicated as a characterizing element of this new project seems confirmed.
At the last GDC, in fact, Wolfeye had released a sort of teaser in which it anticipated something of the new game, with the words “Retro sci-fi” and “First Person”, also implying that the shot should be in first person.
The images show settings that are perhaps post-apocalyptic, and bizarre technological elements that hark back to steampunk and “retro” science fiction, with huge mechanical structures. For now, that’s it, pending a more extensive presentation.
Wolfeye Studios is a team of notable talent coming mainly from Arkane Lyon and Arkane Austin, the latter of which closed permanently in May of this year.
The co-founders are Raf Colantonio and Julien Roby, names linked to the history of Arkane and some of the team’s most notable titles, such as Dishonored and Prey. Weird West, the team’s debut title, attracted a lot of attention, and at this point the developers want to evolve further with this new project.
The idea is to build an ambitious new IP on the DNA of Arkane’s previous games, offering a rich and detailed world, gameplay freedom and a deep RPG experience.
“We are very happy to officially confirm that our next game is actively in production and that it is a first-person action RPG,” explained President and Creative Director Raphael Colantonio. “Fans of past games I have been involved with, such as Dishonored and Prey, will feel right at home, as will RPG fans in general. While we search for the right publishing partner, we are fully committed to involving our community in the development of the game with a limited private alpha in 2025.”
